Alaska is located at the northwest extremity of the country and borders Canada. Because of its unique geographical location, its climate and natural resources make it incomparable to other states. Although it is the largest state in America, it is the least densely populated. It is essential that those who wish to move the state to fully take into consideration the following:

Cost of living: Alaska is proud to say that it is significantly more affordable than other states. The two biggest cities there, Anchorage and Juneau, are a mix of both urban and suburban living. Even with these major cities, there is a general feel of intimacy which adds to the appeal. Most of the state’s best offerings are free, with parks and natural areas open for fishing, skiing, and ice skating, among others. Groceries for a family of four per week in Anchorage would be around USD $122. There is also an annual state payout for residents, which is possible because Alaska has the lowest taxes in the U.S.

Peace and quiet or isolation? In Alaska, population density is very marginal. This means that in some areas – particularly the more remote places – a family can be miles away from the nearest neighbor. Some people find peace in the isolation while others find it depressing. It is a matter of personal preference. Those who prefer the hustle and bustle of metropolis life should reflect on this point seriously.

Loving nature: Alaska is arguably the best state to truly appreciate nature. The state is regularly visited by those who wish to see the Aurora Borealis. This is the natural phenomenon that causes electrons to be visible in the sky. Additionally, residents are blessed to be around wild animals. Activities such as kayaking and fishing can be easily undertaken every day.

Moving to Alaska is a life-changing experience but must only be done so after studying the above-mentioned considerations.

Alaska State signs agreement with ConocoPhillips to market LNG

ConocoPhillips has signed an agreement with the state of Alaska to form a new company aimed at selling natural gas to out-of-state facilities, according to recent news reports. Alaska Gasline Development Corp says that the joint-venture company will also try to partner with ExxonMobil and BP to build this multi-billion Alaska LNG project.

This partnership is seen as a move towards building a stronger Alaskan economy. The recent months have been challenging for the state; with budget cuts forcing the closure of several government-owned schools and offices. This LNG opportunity could help improve the local economy and strengthen its position as a natural resource reserve in the country. 

Gov. Bill Walker said that the potential to partner with three energy giants can play an integral role in the extraction and shipping of Alaska’s natural gas reserves. The new company would also create new opportunities for Alaska to reach the global market. 

It is hoped that the joint venture would be also alleviate local government spending, as so far, all LNG projects have been financed by the state. ConocoPhillips hopes to find a partner in an engineering company to shoulder any construction risk and secure contracts with oil producers to sell the gas to Alaska at affordable rates. 

The project will still take months to begin, however, current forecasts are optimistic. Recent financial studies reveal the competitiveness boost that Alaska needs in LNG industry. This venture is seen as a solution to these data.
